PRP face / hair / scars therapy / wound healing

PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is autologous blood with concentrations of platelets above the baseline levels contains at least five growth factors and the cytokines.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an established injection therapy to enhance tissue regeneration is an excellent treatment that uses a small amount of your own blood to stimulate the production of collagen and new skin cells.

The technique is widely used in orthopaedics medicine and reconstructive surgery, and in the past few years in Beauty Industry, where it has been found as a great non surgery treatment.

PRP is used to support wound healing, helps reduce acne scars, post operation scars, stretch marks. It is also safe treatment for treating hair loss in both men and women. PRP have a great effect as a facelift to reduce wrinkles, lines and helps rebuilt the collagen.

Face

A Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) face treatment is an advanced skin treatment which is great for skin rejuvenation, which uses your own blood platelets to stimulate new cell growth, helping to improve your complexion and skin texture.

PRP Hair Loss Treatment

Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP, is showing great promise as an effective treatment for hair restoration. Rather than altering hormone levels or physically transplanting healthier hair, PRP uses the body's own natural healing process to stimulate hair regeneration.

PRP stimulates the body's innate healing cascade. When we experience an injury, our body responds by delivering a rush of platelet cells. When these platelets are activated, they release several types of growth factors, proteins, and cytokines that play a fundamental role in cell regeneration and tissue healing.

But PRP takes the natural healing response one step further by separating platelets from other blood components and concentrating them. This specially prepared platelet-rich plasma contains 5 to 10 times the concentration of platelets found in whole blood. The concentrated PRP is then delivered into and around the balding and thinning areas of the scalp via injection, stimulating and significantly strengthening the body's healing response.

The growth factors in the platelets act on stem cells located in the hair follicles. This stimulates the growth of new hair follicles.

Since PRP is an autologous therapy, using the patient's own blood product, there is no risk of cross reactivity, disease transmission, or immune reaction.

When injected into thinning and balding areas of the scalp, the growth factors in PRP can encourage thicker, healthier, and fuller hair growth. Studies have shown that PRP can:

  • Increase the reproduction of hair-forming cells
  • Increase the survival and reproduction of hair follicle cells
  • Increase the length of the hair's anagen phase
  • Increase hair density in patients with androgenic alopecia (baldness).

Treatment expectations

Although PRP sounds intimidating because of the presence of blood, the treatment is one of the easiest ways to initiate hair growth. There are many benefits to PRP including:

  • Minimally invasive treatment without incisions
  • Topical anaesthetic used for your comfort
  • Well-tolerated with very few sides effects
  • Little to no downtime
  • All-natural without additional medications or treatments

You will likely have an easy recovery period with this non-surgical hair loss treatment. You may have some slight redness or sensitivity in the area for a short time which dissipates quickly. You can resume work, exercise, and other activities right away. After a couple of hours, you can continue your normal hair care routine, though you should refrain from chemical colouring or other harsher hair treatments for about 72 hours.

First results may be seen around 8-12 weeks from the treatment.

Number of sessions are various but should not be less than 6 spaced out 6-8 weeks apart.

Complex baldness may require monthly PRP injections for a duration of four to six months. Annual maintenance therapy may be required for maximum effectiveness.

Procedure

To create a Platelet Rich Plasma preparation, the following steps are performed:

  • A small sample of blood is drawn from the patient and injected into the blood tube.
  • The platelets are then separated from the other blood components and their concentration is increased using the centrifuge.
  • The resulting platelet rich plasma is then injected into and around the affected areas of the patient's scalp.
  • The concentrated growth factors contained in the plasma trigger a mild inflammatory response which effectively jump starts the body's own natural healing response.

Examples of contraindications

  • Pregnancy and breast feeding
  • Coagulation disturbance
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Any type of cancer
  • Anaemia
  • Low platelets count
  • Feverish State
  • Skin infections

PRP Scars Therapy

The scars can be very embarrassing problem for all of us, especially if they are on the visible areas on our body. Surgical procedures, acne, injuries, and chicken pox are only some of the typical skin damaging conditions that people go through all the time. And, the resultant scarring, depressed or raised can serve as unpleasant reminders. Thankfully, PRP therapy for injury scars can erase the marks and give you flawless skin. PRP treatment can help you by giving your skin an even texture and colouring, so that the imperfections are barely visible.

Each time you have an injury or the skin incurs damage because of surgery or acne, the body responds by covering the wound with new tissue. The new scar tissue is formed of the same collagen and elastin fibers that make up the original tissue. However, the undamaged tissue has an even alignment of fibers so that the skin appears smooth. Scar tissue, on the other hand, forms in an uneven pattern, and for this reason, looks and feels different from the surrounding skin. In some cases, the collagen may form improperly leaving behind a pit, or the excessive collagen may result in a raised scar.

Scars receive a lower amount of blood supply and thus, do not heal as they should. Platelet Rich Plasma or PRP Therapy for injury scars works by creating new blood vessels in the scar tissue. In addition, the PRP serum contains a concentration of growth factors and mesenchymal stem cells along with platelets and other compounds. These elements can attract both hard and soft tissue forming cells to the treatment site. This fresh infusion creates a matrix that serves as a mesh for the collagen and elastin fibers to regenerate and repair, and the process is much like the natural healing processes of the body. As the fibers rejuvenate, the scars begin to lighten and the skin starts to gain a more even appearance.

Procedure

The procedure takes around 45 minutes and does not involve any downtime, Therapist will extract a sample of blood from the forearm and place it in a centrifugal device to extract the PRP serum. Next, he places the serum in the wound site using a fine needle.

You could experience some amount of discomfort and redness in the area, but all of these effects settle within a day or two. Further sessions depend on the condition of your skin and how your body responds to the treatment. Accordingly, your therapist might recommend that you come back for follow-up sessions scheduled 4 weeks apart. Typically, patients need around 1 to 3 sessions, and they soon start to see marked improvements in the texture and appearance of their skin.

Examples of contraindications

  • Pregnancy and breast feeding
  • Coagulation disturbance
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Any type of cancer
  • Anaemia
  • Low platelets count
  • Feverish State
  • Skin infections

PRP for wounds healing

Wounds can be very challenging issue in Medicine, however any kind of wounds including diabetic ulcers, surgical incisions, and bed or pressure sores respond well to PRP treatments.

Each time you have an injury, the body springs into action to heal it. Typically, the healing process works in four stages.

  • Haemostasis - this stage is the stopping of bleeding from the wound. At the injury site, the blood transforms from a liquid into gel. The damaged vessels close up to prevent further loss of blood from the wound.
  • Inflammation- the body’s healing mechanism begins work by releasing chemicals in the injury. These chemicals bring about swelling around the wound and redness. You’ll also sense pain and warmth in the wound. In case, the injury is severe, your body raises its temperature to fight any possible pathogens or bacteria that may have entered the wound.
  • Proliferation - this stage is where the body begins to create new tissue by concentrating collagen and other growth factors on the site. New blood vessels develop that bring in nutrients and oxygen to assist in the healing.
  • Maturation- skin forms on the injury site covering it. However, depending on the seriousness of the injury, the inner tissues take longer to heal completely. The maturation stage can take a long while and you’ll need to continue to take care of the injury.

The serum used in PRP therapy is a concentration of the chemicals that the body uses for the healing process. Each of the components contained in plasma is designed by nature to provide all the necessary elements for the healing process. For this reason, PRP therapy for wound healing is highly effective.

  • Thromboxanes are cells that help in the hemostasis stage by stopping the flow of blood and forming clots.
  • Serotonin also works to stop bleeding and ease some of the pain you feel.
  • Healing agents activate the thrombin in the plasma so that it forms a glue or clot to close the wound.
  • Growth factors that contain fibroblasts and keratinocytes: Fibroblasts are the cells that form the tissue and collagen framework while keratinocytes create the outer layer of the skin.
  • Cytokines are proteins that attract an army of white blood cells to the injury site so they protect it from infections. Cytokines also send signals to the tissue repairing cells directing them to heal.
  • Thrombocidins are yet another kind of protein that kill harmful bacteria that can cause infections.
  • Proteases in the plasma work to clean up the tissues surrounding the wound so that a new framework can take its place.

Benefits PRP Therapy for Wound Healing

Therapist can heal various kinds of wounds with PRP therapy because of the dual action of repairing tissue and fighting infections. For instance,

  • PRP helps in the healing of acute or chronic diabetic ulcers. Given that at least 15% of diabetics are likely to suffer from foot ulcers at some time, PRP treatments can help in the repair.
  • PRP helps in the healing after surgical procedures especially in the case of patients that are diabetic or elderly that have ineffective repairing abilities. Certain patients may have weakened immunity because of some medical condition and PRP can help.
  • PRP facilitates healing with the minimum risk of infection because of the presence of leucocytes or white blood cells in the serum.
  • Repairing of tissues using PRP causes less pain and discomfort to patients because of the quick healing action. As a result, they need fewer pain medications.
  • PRP helps in the healing of wounds with the minimum of scarring
  • Getting PRP reduces the need for blood transfusions.
  • PRP therapy for wound healing can cut back on the hospital stays of patients post-surgery resulting in more economical treatments.
  • The scar tissue that forms after using PRP therapy for wound healing is more flexible so patients have a better range of motion.
  • The PRP serum is easy to prepare and can be ready within 30 minutes. Doctors can have the plasma ready while the surgery progresses or when cleaning an injury.
  • PRP can be used in open heart surgery, plastic surgery, spinal surgery, and orthopaedic surgery for helping in the healing of fractures.
  • PRP therapy for wound healing is highly effective in helping patients heal. If you’re scheduled for surgery or have ulcers and injuries, you can consider talking to your doctor about getting the treatment to help with the healing.

The PRP preparation process involves withdrawing a small amount of blood from the patient’s forearm. Therapist isolate the plasma with its healing agents by spinning the blood in a centrifugal device. Next, they place the concentration of growth factors and other repairing agents in the wound. Normal blood does have the growth factors for healing but these agents are present in smaller quantities. The PRP serum provides an essential boost to the healing process much like the medications that doctors may use in dressings.

The best advantage of PRP therapy for wound healing is that the serum is made from the patient’s blood and not likely to have any adverse reactions. Also, the scar tissue forming in the wound has a lower blood supply because of its tougher structure. PRP can stimulate the formation of new blood vessels so that the healing continues without slowing.
